Square Ducks Productions creates theatrical experiences that center the needs of the neurodivergent community. People of all ages with developmental disabilities deserve soul-nourishing theater where they can be their true selves without having to fit neatly into preconceived notions of what theater should be
You Don’t Need to Sit Still!
The main obstacle to enjoying theater for many neurodivergent (and many neurotypical) people is the inability to sit quietly in one place for an extended period of time. Square Ducks specializes in productions where the audience freely comingles on-stage with the performers. The on-stage audience are helped by guides — part performer, part caretaker — who help safely navigate the space and interact with the show. Audiences are sizes are kept small (about 15-20) ensuring that each audience member gets a high level of interaction with the cast. And for those who prefer to keep to themselves, you can certainly stay in your seat and enjoy the show the old-fashioned way!
Square Ducks Productions incorporates a wide variety of sensory play into our shows — from bubble machines, to shadow puppets, to live music, to squishies! We are also keenly aware of the sensory needs of our audience, and provide a nearby quite space in case anyone gets overwhelmed. Ticketholders receive a packet before each performance giving them an overview of what to expect and allows caretakers to alert us to what might be triggering and what might be most enjoyable to each audience member.
